Dustin Poirier has called out fellow MMA fighter Conor McGregor for not following through on his promise to donate $500K to Poirier’s charity, The Good Fight.
McGregor first pledged the money in October last year. Two months later he reassured that the sizable donation to the foundation was on its way and repeated his promise again earlier this year after their UFC 257 bout, according to The Shadow League.
On Sunday, Poirier decided to publicly air his grievances on the matter. Taking to Twitter, he accused McGregor of failing to respond to queries about the donation after their UFC 257 fight. He then gave his rival until July 10, which is when they have a UFC 264 bout planned, to pay the amount in full.
In response, McGregor pointed out that his contribution was a donation and not a debt, adding that he had not received plans from Poirier on how the funds would be allocated.
"We’ve been awaiting the plans for the money that never came," he tweeted to Poirier. "I do with all my donations. Know where it's going dot for dot. Otherwise it goes walking. As is the case with a lot of these foundations, sadly. You took the McG over the belt shows I was right."
Poirier countered with similar accusations.
"100% never a debt," he replied. "You offered, we accepted, and like I said your Team never responded to our emails regarding the process of where funds would be put to work! July 10th you will taste defeat yet Again."
The exchange soon had McGregor seething, as he fired off a rant directed at Poirier.
"You’re ripped you inbred hillbilly," he tweeted. "Why do you wink with your ears? You f***ing brain dead hillbilly. 500k with no plan in place. Ye hang tight. Fool. You must be new to money. The fight is off btw. I’m going to fight someone else on the 10th. Good luck on your old contract kid."
As things escalated, McGregor's manager, Audie Attar of Paradigm Sports Management, jumped in to defend his client.
"Dustin! Why you frontin?" Attar tweeted. "Did you forget the face to face meeting we just had in Utah with our families? Where we stood by you as you tried to get more $ from the UFC? Conor is as generous as it gets. Don’t dismiss his business savvy. He always gets it done. This is a low move man."
The Good Fight is dedicated to helping children in need in various ways and McGregor's donation would help to build a gym in Lafayette, La., where Poirier would offer free training to youth in the area, according to Yahoo! Sports.
