Dylann Roof's sister was arrested at school for carrying weapons and marijuana while her fellow students participated in a national walkout in protest of gun violence and in honor of the 17 lives lost in the recent Parkland, Florida, school shooting.
Morgan Roof, whose older brother killed nine black worshippers in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015, also caused alarm with a Snapchat post in which she said she hoped those participating in Wednesday's National School Walkout were shot, Newsweek reported.
"Your walking out for the allowed time of 17 min, they are letting you do this, nothing is gonna change what tf you think it's gonna do?" Morgan Roof wrote in her post, according to Newsweek. "I hope it's a trap and y'all get shot we know it's fixing to be nothing but black people walkin out anyway...No offense ofc buuut."
The 18-year-old A.C. Flora High School student is facing weapon and drug related charges after she arrived at school carrying a knife, pepper spray and marijuana on Wednesday.
Morgan Roof was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and later released on a $5,000 bond on condition that she not return to the school, WIS-TV noted.
School principal Susan Childs addressed concerns in a letter to parents on the school's website.
"In an isolated incident yesterday, administration was notified that there was possibly a weapon on campus. Through diligent work from the Assistant Principals and the School Resource Officers, an unloaded weapon was recovered," she said.
"I realize that rumors and the tragic school shootings in Florida are events that can cause anxiety for our students, parents, faculty, and the community. Be assured that the safety of our students will always be our top priority."
Morgan Roof's brother, a self-proclaimed white supremacist, was sentenced to death last January and is awaiting execution at the Terre Haute Federal Prison in Indiana, NBC News noted.
