East Coast Storm: Winter Weather to Bring More Snow This Week (Video)

By    |   Monday, 24 March 2014 11:33 AM EDT

Spring may have sprung last week, but the East Coast is poised to get pummeled by yet another winter storm this week, with up to a foot of snow expected to hit parts of Massachusetts.

If the storm follows the predicted path Tuesday into Wednesday, it would dump a total of 1-3 inches of snow in parts of Pennsylvania and upstate New York, 3-5 inches across New Jersey and New York City, an estimated 8-12 inches in Massachusetts southeast of Boston, and the possibility of a whopping 12-18 inches for parts of Maine.

"At this point we are pretty confident that there is going to be a big storm not too far off the East Coast Tuesday into Wednesday," Frank Strait, a meteorologist with AccuWeather Inc., told Bloomberg by telephone Monday. "[This is] the strongest one we have seen probably so far. I have been saying all day Old Man Winter is coming back in town and he’s picking a fight."

Depending on what track the storm takes, the snow could come coupled with strong winds and some coastal flooding, according to Weather.com.

"Gusts will be reaching hurricane force of 74 miles (119 kilometers) per hour or more and it is certain that Atlantic Canada will be raked by those winds, along with coastal flooding and heavy snow. If that heavy snow and high winds were to hit New England there could be significant travel delays and the possibility of power outages," Strait told Bloomberg.
