Newly married model Elle MacPherson and her billionaire husband, Jeffrey Soffer, have reportedly turned to a surrogate to have a child together.
A source
told Australia's Woman's Day that MacPherson, 51, who has two children from a previous relationship, and Soffer, 45, who has three children, "realised after a few months that having a baby naturally was a lost cause and they barely discussed adoption – they agreed on surrogacy quite quickly."
The couple married about 18 months ago and had been trying to get pregnant for months after the ceremony, Woman's Day said.
“Elle is thanking her lucky stars she had the foresight to freeze her eggs years ago. She figured they’d come in handy,” the source told the magazine.
Working with fertility specialists, the couple identified a woman in her 30s who will carry their baby, WD said.
Their ages clearly aren’t stopping the couple, and between the two of them, they certainly don’t have any financial issues. Soffer is a real estate developer at Turnberry Associates, and has an estimated net worth of $1 billion.
Still, headlines about the 51-year-old model with the nickname “The Body” caused many to comment on her age and impending parenthood.
"I hate it when people try to say a certain age is too old to have a baby or too young," one woman wrote on Twitter. "If someone wants to be a parent and can love and care for that child then crack on, instead of worrying about a certain age maybe people should worry more about children who aren’t loved and cared for properly."
Baby aside, many online just focused on the fact that the beautiful model doesn’t look half of her 51 years.
