Elton John announced Wednesday that he will retire after a final, 300-date tour over three years and fans are sad but thankful for his decades of music.
The 70-year-old singer has toured for more than 50 years and said he wants to spend more time with his children, 7-year-old Zachary and 5-year-old Elijah, who were born to John and husband David Furnish through a surrogate.
“I love them so much,” John said in the announcement. “I don’t want to miss them and I don’t want them to miss me.”
Tickets for the “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour” go on sale Feb. 1, and the tour kicks off in September. John will perform at the Grammy Awards Sunday in New York with Miley Cyrus.
Some Twitter fans said John would be greatly missed, while others figured it was a ploy to raise ticket prices.
