The girlfriend of Elvis Presley's grandson, Benjamin Keough, was heard hysterically screaming "don't do it" shortly before the 27-year-old died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the early hours of Sunday, according to reports.

The incident took place at the family's luxury home in Calabasas, California, and now it has emerged that there was a party at the residence the night Keough died.

A neighbor told Daily Mail that they could hear the party going on into the early hours of Sunday, then, at around 3:30 am, a distraught woman was heard pleading "don't do it."

Another neighbor told the outlet that they had seen the woman visiting the home on several occasions and believed she was Keough's girlfriend. She was heard telling police who arrived later at the scene that the family was going to hold her accountable for the death.

"I could hear somebody speaking really loud in the backyard. I looked outside and I saw what appeared to be his girlfriend outside talking to police, and she was pretty hysterical saying 'I can't believe it,'" the neighbor said. "She just kept swearing and saying, 'I can't believe it, I can't believe it.' She was saying 'I can't believe he would do that to himself.'"

The neighbor added: "She said, 'The family's going to hate me' and 'They're going to blame me.' I think she was feeling guilty for it happening ... but I don't want to speculate [as to] what caused it."

Commenting on Keough's apparent suicide, Lisa Marie Presley's representative Roger Widynowski said in a statement Sunday to The Associated Press that she was devastated.
"She is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated but trying to stay strong for her 11-year-old twins and her oldest daughter Riley," Widynowski said. "She adored that boy. He was the love of her life."
