Pregnant social media influencer Emily Mitchell's cause of death has been revealed. The 36-year-old mother of four died from a pulmonary embolism, her family revealed in an update posted to their GoFundMe page.
"Although it is challenging to wrap our heads around how this could have happened, we know all first responders and medical personnel did everything they could to help, and therefore we are certain that it was simply her time," the update posted on Tuesday read. "The Lord was calling her home."
Emily, who created the popular "Hidden Way" Instagram page and blog, passed away on Dec. 22. She had been eating breakfast when she became unresponsive, People reported. She was just over 16 weeks pregnant with her fifth child, who she and husband Joseph had named Joey, according to her obituary. The couple also shared children Finn, Isla, Eden, and Luna.
Emily and Joseph announced that they were expecting in November on Instagram.
"you’ve probably noticed I’ve been a little MIA..welp this be the reason lol," Emily captioned a photo of herself and Joseph holding an ultrasound photo.
In her final post, Emily revealed that she would be having a cesarean section.
"This will be my FIFTH C-Section," she captioned a photo of their family. In the image, Emily is cradling her baby bump
"However your baby gets here, just know YOUR EXPERIENCE is valid and worthy. YOU are no less a mother if you needed emergency medical intervention, had a planned c-section, or an epidural," she continued. "You aren’t a ‘better’ mother if you had a home birth or an unmedicated vaginal birth. And if you grew your brood through adoption or surrogacy or family blending? Those are YOUR babies and YOU SIT PROUDLY at the table of motherhood."
