Esther Jenner, mother of Bruce Jenner, said that she is happy for his new female identity as "Caitlyn," but will continue to refer to him by his birth name.
"She's beautiful," Esther, 88,
told Access Hollywood on Monday, just hours after Caitlyn debuted on the cover of Vanity Fair.
"I still have to call him Bruce. His father and I named him that. It's going to be a struggle for me to get used to the change, but happily so… I'm very happy for him — or her!"
Bruce Jenner lived as a male for 65 years, and old habits die hard. Luckily for Esther, she had the chance to hang out with Caitlyn before the public unveiling.
"I was there last week, well actually, I got home a week and a half ago. And I met Caitlyn. She is… so much more at ease," she said, using female pronouns to refer to her child.
On Monday, many people noted that Caitlyn looked striking similar to actress Jessica Lange. Soon enough, Lange spoke out, saying she found the comparisons "so wonderful."
Perhaps with that in mind, Access Hollywood's Stephanie Bauer asked Esther if Caitlyn resembled anyone famous.
"You know who she reminds me of? My granddaughter Samantha. There is a lot of Sam!" she said, referring to Caitlyn's niece.
