From Amazon to his private space company, Jeff Bezos has always been a pioneer and now he’s a pioneer in an unlikely category: the richest divorce settlement in history. The value of his settlement with wife MacKenzie is $36 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index,, making her the world’s fourth richest woman. But before the Bezos there were other big-money divorces and here are the five most expensive splits after the Amazon CEO’s.
- Dmitry and Elena Rybolovlev, $4.5 billion — In possibly the largest divorce settlement in history prior to Bezos', a Swiss court ordered Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev to pay his wife more than $4.5 billion, according to Fox News. Their legal battle was drawn out over six years but well worth the wait for Elena.
- Alec Wildenstein and Jocelyn Wildenstein, $3.8 billion — French-American businessman Alec Wildenstein made headlines in 1999 when he divorced his wife of 21 years, Jocelyn Wildenstein, in a very high-profile case that awarded Jocelyn $3.8 billion, Business Insider noted.
- Rupert and Anna Murdoch, $1.7 billion — Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his wife Anna (now Anna Murdoch Mann) divorced after 32 years of marriage in 2013. The settlement saw roughly $1.7 billion awarded to Mann. Murdoch went on to marry Wendi Deng, 38 years his junior, less than three weeks after the divorce was finalized, CNBC reported.
- Bernie and Slavica Ecclestone, $1-$1.2 billion — Although it is unclear exactly how much the 2009 divorce settlement was between British race car company exec and his model wife Slavic Radić, reports put the number at roughly $1 and $1.2 billion, Fox News noted.
- Steve and Elaine Wynn, $1 billion — The prominent Las Vegas casino couple were married twice, from 1963 to 1986, and then again from 1991 to 2010, but the second time was very unlucky. The couple's expensive divorce settlement is estimated at $1 billion, according to Business Insider.
