Healthcare is a becoming a major cause for concern among Americans who are battling to keep up with the costs that are increasing faster than their salaries are growing.
A report from The Commonwealth Fund shows how dire the situation is but, while this is a nationwide issue, some states are more expensive than others when it comes to healthcare.
There has been a notable uptick in healthcare costs since 2017, with Americans spending $3.65 trillion on health care in 2018 alone, according to Fortune. However, there is a notable difference in costs between states.
For example, in Hawaii healthcare costs are as low as $4,700 while in several other states they are much higher, topping $8,000 per person in some instances, The Commonwealth Fund reported.
"People across the United States are not experiencing health care costs equally," the researchers wrote. Here are the 10 most expensive states for healthcare according to Business Insider:
10. Nebraska: $7,897. This figure represents 11.3% of Nebraska's median income. About 9% of the state's population is uninsured.
9. Tennessee. $7,900. This represents 13.9% of the median income in Tennessee, where about 9% of the population is uninsured.
8. North Carolina: $8,015. The figure represents 13.8% of the median income in North Carolina, where about 11% of the population is uninsured.
7. Alaska: $8,058. This amount represents 10.4% of the state's median income, where about 14% of the population is uninsured.
6. Arizona: $8,060. This represents 14.3% of the median income in Arizona, where about 10% of the population is uninsured.
5. Virginia: $8,104. This is about 11% of the median income in Virginia, where about 9% of the population is uninsured.
4. Texas: $8,239. This amount represents 13.7% of the median income in Texas, where about 17% of the population is uninsured.
3. Delaware: $8,279. This figure represents about 13.7% of median income in Delaware, where around 6% of the population are uninsured.
2. South Dakota: $8,286.- This amount represents about 12% of the median income in South Dakota, where about 9% of the state's population is uninsured.
1. New Hampshire: $8,289. What separates this state from the others is that New Hampshire also has the highest paid median income in the country. About 6% of people in the state are uninsured.
