Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension was reinstated on Thursday, barring the Dallas Cowboys running back from playing on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the emergency injunction request submitted by the NFL Players Association on behalf of Elliott, ESPN reported.
The ruling puts Elliott back on the suspension list after he was granted a temporary administrative stay last week to play against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The NFL player was handed his suspension on Aug. 11 after Tiffany Thompson accused him of multiple incidents of domestic violence, Spots Day reported.
The league later said there was "substantial and persuasive evidence" supporting these claims, ruling that Elliott was in breach of NFL policy and slapping him with a six-game suspension.
The latest ruling came hours after lawyers from the NFL Players Association appeared in court to appeal for the delay of the suspension as they pursue a lawsuit arguing that Elliott was being improperly punished.
The news emerged moments after Wide receiver Dez Bryant said he was confident Elliott would be eligible to play.
"All I know is I'll be running out there besides Zeke on Sunday," Bryant said, per ESPN.
"I know that. That's what I feel. That's what I believe. That's what I'm going to stay with."
According to the New York Post, the Players Association’s expedited appeal for the 2nd Circuit will be held on Dec. 1, ruling Elliott out of the next four games taking place before then.
WFAA noted that the suspension prohibits Elliott from playing or practicing at any team facilities until Christmas Eve.
The Cowboys' next six games, which Elliott is likely to miss, will be against the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Redskins, New York Giants and Oakland Raiders.
