A family of four died over the weekend  their SUV crashed into an irrigation canal in Washington state, according to The Associated Press.

The Spokesman-Review reported their SUV crashed and submerged in the flowing canal Sunday morning near George, Wash.

Grant County Coroner Craig Morrison on Monday released the victims’ names. They were 33-year-old Dioselina Buenrostro, 35-year-old Gabriel Ochoa, and two girls, 4-year-old Yesenia “Jessie” Ochoa, and 9-year-old Sandra Ochoa. The family was from Stanwood, Wash.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says their SUV collided with a compact car at an intersection near the Gorge Amphitheater, then struck a guardrail and plunged into the canal. The SUV submerged and was pulled with the current about 100 yards downstream.

The adults died at the scene, and the girls died at Quincy Valley Medical Center.

Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones called it the single most tragic accident of his 21-year career.

Gabriel Ochoa worked at Stangeland Farms just east of Stanwood for more than seven years, helping milk some of the farm's 750 cows, said Janet Stangeland, the farm's owner.

Gabriel Ochoa came to the farm looking for a job "and we had an opening," Stangeland said.

"He showed up on time, did his job and had a very nice family," she said.

Stangeland said her grandson attended school with Sandra Ochoa for the past three years.
