A fan fell into the New York Yankees' dugout at Seattle's Safeco Field Wednesday, stunning nearly everyone in the middle of the eighth inning as the team took the field.
The Yankees were leading and on their way to a 5-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners when the fan first landed on top of the dugout and then the steps, according to the New York Daily News. The man tried to get up but fell again, hitting his head.
"It kind of freaked me out, actually," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said, according to The Associated Press. "I think he tried to jump in, but he was probably not even in a state to be walking."
Brian McCann, a Yankees catcher, said he heard a "loud thud" and then saw the dazed fan in the dugout.
"He hit his head on the ground; it looked like he was out of it," McCann said, according to the Daily News. "He basically knocked himself out. It was a loud thud, I turned around and he was out of it."
NJ Advance Media said the man did not say anything to the players as he was taken away by police at the stadium.
The New York Post reported that the man actually tried to get on the field but landed in the dugout instead.
"He looked messed up," New York catcher Austin Romine said, according to the Post. "You never want to see anyone get hurt, but you can't have someone coming into the dugout. We're not ready for that. I thought the police officer who handled it did a great job."
ESPN share a photo of the wayward fan on Twitter.
Media reports did not mention where the fan came from in the stands, if alcohol was involved in the incident, or if he was a Yankees or Mariners fan.
Some took a humorous look at the incident.
