"Fast and Furious 7" will simply be called "Furious 7" when it premieres April 3, the latest movie in the "Fast and Furious" film franchise and the last featuring Paul Walker since the actor's death nearly a year ago.
The name change announcement was paired with news that the film's first trailer will be released via a live Facebook
launch on Nov. 1, according to Deadline.com.
In the meantime, the studio released what it called a "hype video" on Sunday.
"Because of our fans, our saga has grown bigger and better with every chapter," the filmmakers wrote on Facebook. "In just 7 days, we will reveal the first trailer for our next installment — 'FURIOUS 7' — at The Road to Furious 7: Trailer Launch Event at Universal Studios in Los Angeles! We want to share this moment with all of our fans around the world."
The Facebook photos that accompanied the announcement show Walker in action. He died mid-way through shooting the seventh installment of the larger-than-life street-racing series, which also stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Michelle Rodriguez.
The latest "Fast and Furious" movie may not be Oscar material, but it will be plenty of fun for car enthusiasts,
wrote Robert Sorokanich for CarAndDriver.com.
"They're excellent summertime flicks — high-octane adrenaline gushers full of races, chases, and explosions," he wrote. "The early installments may chronicle an era of flamboyantly bad automotive taste that many of us have long outgrown, but the movies helped kindle automotive enthusiasm in an entire generation of young gearheads."
