The first day of spring 2018 could be a snow day for many areas of the United States, according to various weather reports.
With a winter storm forecast to hit the Southern and Eastern parts of the U.S. this week, Time magazine predicts snow and rain arriving Tuesday and persisting through to Wednesday to put a damper on spring celebrations.
The National Weather Service has implemented a Winter Weather Advisory in the Washington, D.C., area from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, while a Winter Storm Watch has also been put into effect as of Tuesday night through to Wednesday night, WTOP noted.
USA Today reported that areas between eastern Tennessee to northern Maine could see snow over the next two days, with the Appalachians and areas to the north and west of the Washington and Baltimore metro areas expected to be most affected by the icy conditions.
The south could see severe storms sweeping through parts of southern Georgia and much of Florida on Tuesday while the West may be pounded by rain and higher-elevation snow across the Pacific Northwest.
California could see flash flooding and mudslides while Los Angeles may see up to six inches of rain in the foothills and up to four inches for coastal areas.
March is synonymous with warmer temperatures in the Northeast, but this year saw three consecutive Nor’easters hit the coastline, resulting in destruction caused by fierce winds, heavy snowfall and flash floods.
Tom Kines, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather told Time that March could be "a very cruel month," which was marked with "those spring teases then winter returns."
