Flavor Flav, rapper and reality television star, pleaded guilty Monday in connection to a domestic violence incident in a plea deal that will help him avoid felony charges and jail time.
The 55-year-old, whose real name is William Drayton, was arrested in October 2012 at his Las Vegas home for allegedly getting into a physical altercation with his fiancée and then chasing her
teenage son around with a kitchen knife, CNN reported.
He was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse, and battery domestic violence, but instead pleaded guilty to two domestic violence misdemeanors in exchange for a year of probation and 12 domestic violence counseling sessions with his fiancée's son.

This was not Flavor Flav's first run-in with the law. He has an extensive rap sheet, including some 16 suspensions on his driver's license and drug, robbery, and burglary arrests.
The rapper was a member of the influential 1980s rap group Public Enemy, whose songs addressing social awareness of African-Americans in urban areas became anthems in inner cities. Flavor Flav and Public Enemy were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
After time away from music, he entered the reality television world with VH1's "The Surreal Life" in 2004, where he developed a romantic relationship with former movie star Brigitte Nielsen. After the series and his relationship with Nielsen ended, he starred in three seasons of a "Bachelor"-esque show, "Flavor of Love," on VH1 beginning in 2006.
