Forbes has released its 2017 highest-paid actors ranking, and Mark Wahlberg has topped the list this year with $68 million.
Although Wahlberg’s “Transformers: The Last Knight” wasn’t a box-office success, his pay for the film was fixed and didn’t suffer along with the movie, Forbes reported. The former rapper also stars in the upcoming “Daddy’s Home 2.”
Wahlberg replaced Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at the No. 1 spot; Johnson made $500,000 more than the figure recorded on the previous year's list but fell to second with $65 million.
No. 3 on the list was “The Fate of the Furious” co-star Vin Diesel, who earned $54.4 million. Diesel also had roles “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” Forbes reported.
Adam Sandler ($50.5 million) and Jackie Chan ($49 million) rounded out the top five.
The first woman on the list was Emma Stone, who was 15th with $26 million; others included Melissa McCarthy at No. 21, Emma Watson at No. 25, and two Jennifers (Aniston and Lawrence, Nos. 16 and 17 respectively). Forbes pointed out that only 28.5 percent of speaking roles in movies went to women in 2017, and that a pay gap would likely exist until that changed.
Many of the men on the list were actors in Marvel's “The Avengers” movie franchise, including Robert Downey Jr., sixth with $48 million, Chris Hemsworth, 11th with $31.5 million, and Ryan Reynolds, 18th with $21.5 million. Jeremy Renner had $19 million and Mark Ruffalo had $13 million to round out the list.
Twitter felt that the best quality actors might have been a bit underrepresented on the list.
