After being displaced by Kevin Hart last year, Jerry Seinfeld is back on top of Forbes’ "World's Highest-Paid Comedians" list for 2017.
Seinfeld had an income of $69 million between June 2016 and June 2017, Forbes reported, mostly from Netflix specials and syndication of the long-running sitcom bearing his name.
Seinfeld and other top comedians have begun to sign $20 million-per-special contracts with the streaming giant, which have helped propel their incomes upward and sustain their top rankings. Seinfeld also signed a deal to develop a new show and purchased the library for his Netflix show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” Forbes reported.
Chris Rock was second on the list this year with $57 million, and the rest of the top five included Louis CK with $52 million, Dave Chapelle with $47 million, and Amy Schumer with $37.5 million, Forbes reported. All of these comedians were tapped for at least one Netflix special.
Kevin Hart, who topped the list last year with $87.5 million in earnings after filling numerous stadiums and arenas on a long tour, dropped to $32 million to make sixth on the list this year, Forbes reported.
Forbes calculates its income figures from comedians’ pretax income from touring, television and film projects, and endorsement deals, ABC News reported.
