'Furious 7' Box Office Could Hit $100M-Plus for April 3 Opening

"Furious 7," Paul Walker's final movie shot before his untimely death, is likely to blow the box office wide open with its April 3 release, pulling in over $100 million.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources with access to early tracking estimated that the latest instalment of the "Fast & Furious" franchise will rake in between $110 and $115 million in its first weekend.

In 2012, "Fast & Furious 6" was released over the long Memorial Day weekend, and earned $117 million.

As far as April film releases go, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" holds the record for the top grossing open, and pulled down $95 million last year. "Furious 7" is expected to do even better, and its numbers will likely be comparable to "Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1," which had the biggest domestic launch last year with $121 million.

To put that in context, the current record holder for biggest domestic opening is 2012's "The Avengers," which made $207 million.

Walker died in a car wreck en route to a charity fundraiser while the "Furious" cast was filming the seventh movie.

Thanks to CGI technology, voice-effects technology, as well as Walker's brothers Caleb and Cody — who were used as stand-ins — producers were able to finish the remainder of his scenes to complete the latest installment.
