Gal Gadot is facing backlash over a tweet she wrote regarding the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
The "Wonder Woman" star on Wednesday posted a message calling for unity, but instead of praise her past Israeli military service came into discussion as Twitter users accused her of being a "propaganda" tool for Israel, as well as a supporter of "ethnic cleansing" and "mass genocide," according to Deadline.
The barbs eventually prompted Gadot to disable comments on her tweet.
In her message, the actress wrote of how heartbroken she was over the Israel-Hamas situation.
"My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people," she wrote. "This is a vicious cycle that has been going on for far too long. Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation, Our neighbors deserve the same. I pray for the victims and their families, I pray for this unimaginable hostility to end, I pray for our leaders to find the solution so we could live side by side in peace. I pray for better days."
Although Gadot was met with bitterness by many over her tweet, there were some who expressed their support for her.
"The internet is angry at Gal Gadot because she’s an IDF veteran, which all Israelis are required to serve in for at least two years, and had the audacity to share a heartwarming message for peace in the conflict. A lot of disgusting people in her replies," one Twitter user wrote.
Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz also sided with Gadot.
"God bless @GalGadot," he tweeted.
Gadot was joined by several other celebrities to voice their opinions on the situation. Among them was Rihanna, who expressed heartache over the "violence I'm seeing displayed between Israel and Palestine!" in an Instagram post.
"I can't bear to see it! Innocent Israeli and Palestinian children are hiding in bomb shelters, over 40 lives lost in Gaza alone, at least 13 of whom were also innocent children!" she wrote. "There needs to be some kind of resolve!" she wrote. "We are sadly watching innocent people fall victim to notions perpetrated by government and extremists, and this cycle needs to be broken!"
Zayn Malik also spoke out about the conflict.
"I stand with the Palestinian people and support their resistance to colonization and the protection of their human rights. My heart aches for the families who have lost loved ones. We can not stand as silent witnesses to children being orphaned and murdered and not demand for the human rights of all Palestinians! This must end. Free Palestine," he wrote in an Instagram post.
