Instead of releasing a new season this April, "Game of Thrones" is filming epic battle scenes for the final season of the show, set to come out next year.
The final season may only have six episodes, but rumors are that each one will be like a mini-blockbuster movie, according to Forbes.
A recent note posted on assistant director Jonathan Quinlan’s Instagram page, since removed but posted by Watchers On the Wall blog, alluded to a recent battle scene filming that apparently took 55 days straight and a total of 11 weeks. It involved snow, wind, rain, mud, sheep droppings, and sub-zero temperatures.
The thank-you note from the producers also said, “When tens of millions of people around the world watch this episode a year from now, they won’t know how hard you worked. They won’t care how tired you were or how tough it was to do your job in sub-freezing temperatures. They’ll just understand that they’re watching something that’s never been done before. And that’s because of you. Thank you.” The note is signed, The Producer Types.
The epic 55-day "Game of Thrones" battle scene is believed to be the longest ever shot for television, although it is not known how long it actually will be when edited. The blog said the battle was the battle of Winterfell, and that the show still has to shoot the Dragonpit and the King’s Landing battle.
Previous “Game of Thrones” battles including “Battle of the Bastards” and the “Goldroad” ambush took just under a month to film, by comparison, Den of Geek reported.
