Sunday’s upcoming Season 7 finale of “Game of Thrones” will be titled “The Dragon and the Wolf,” and it will be nearly 80 minutes long.
The finale is the longest episode in the show’s history, beating out this week’s 70-minute “Beyond the Wall” by nearly 10 minutes, Mashable reported. Last season’s finale was 68 minutes.
Fans and columnists are already debating the title’s meaning and suggesting several possibilities, from a romance between Daenerys Targaryen (dragon) and Jon Snow (wolf) to the unearthing of secrets about Snow’s parentage or even events between his parents, who were also dragon and wolf, Time reported.
The episode will also feature a meeting between pretty much the whole cast of characters to discuss a growing threat, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Episode 6, “Beyond the Wall,” had 10.2 million viewers (more than 14 million when streaming was added), EW reported. Past finales have broken viewing records. The next season isn’t expected until late 2018 or early 2019.
Viewers have remained faithful to the show even as multiple leaks have given away plot details before the show officially streamed. HBO has bragged repeatedly that the fantasy drama is the most popular in the world in spite of leaks, Vanity Fair reported.
Fans expressed their excitement on Twitter but also their sadness that the season was ending.
