British actor George Cole, well-known for his role as Arthur Daley on the long-running “Minder” series, died Wednesday at the age of 90.
Cole played in “Minder” alongside actor
Dennis Waterman for 16 years, Variety reported. He also played in “St. Trinian’s,” a series of four comedic movies in the 1950s and '60s in which he played Flash Harry.
Waterman told the BBC he had been to see his friend and former co-star on Tuesday.
"I am so sad to hear of George's death," he said. "His family must be devastated, and I am absolutely certain that anybody who ever knew him, will feel the same. I'm so grateful to have been a friend of this wonderful man. We worked together for many years and my boast is that we laughed all day every day. He was an amazing man, a wonderful actor and besotted with his family. Farewell, old friend."
Others went online to share their memories of Cole, including Waterman’s daughter, Hannah Waterman:
Daley, the “wheeler-dealer” role for which Cole was most recognized, didn’t have a character that Cole appreciated, the BBC reported.
"I've earned a few sovs from him over the years, so I shouldn't complain, but he was a rogue; a dreadful character, really," Cole once said. "I'd certainly lock up the silver if he was coming to dinner."
