Ghost Boots Photo Haunts Vacation Pic Taken on 'Samurai Graveyard' Beach

A “samurai ghost” whose black boots appear in a photo of a little girl on a Japanese beach has roused the interest of the Internet community after a Reddit user posted the image online this week.

The photo was one of many taken on a Zushi, Japan, beach, in July 2014, the 4-year-old girl’s father, Martin Springall, told ABC News. The samurai speculation has grown because the beach is a samurai graveyard.

"My daughter thinks the whole thing is just so funny," Springall told ABC News. "She thinks it's a ghost, but not a scary ghost — a nice one."

Springall told ABC his friend Brian Publicover uploaded the photo to Reddit, where it went viral. He also said no touch-up was done to the photo and that it is legitimate.

"My daughter is really shy, and she wouldn't have taken a picture if there was someone standing behind her, which I would have definitely noticed," he said.

Springall said he took several photos of the same scene that day, but only one showed what appear to be boots behind his daughter. It wasn’t until he looked at the photos later that he saw the eerie image, he told the Daily Mail.

“I showed my wife immediately. She was considerably more upset by it than I was, to be honest,” he told the British newspaper.

The photo was passed around social media, inciting speculations that the boots could also belong to the ghost of a World War I soldier.
