'Ghostbusters 3': Reboot Will Have All-Female Cast, Director Confirms

Writer Katie Dippold and director Paul Feig are teaming up to create what's being called "Ghostbusters 3," which will feature a female cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

While many are referring to the film as "Ghostbusters 3," the new movie will launch a new series unconnected to the earlier movies, THR said.

Feig confirmed the reboot plans on Twitter.

The third "Ghostbusters" installment was being planned for the original team of Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis, but the project stalled and Ramis died in February. Feig came on board in August.

Dippold’s work includes writing a sequel for "The Heat" and working on "Parks and Recreation" and "MadTV." Feig directed "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat."

Bill Murray, who isn’t involved in the project, recently said he was in favor of an all-female cast.

“I would go to that movie, and they’d probably have better outfits, too,” Murray told The Toronto Star. He suggested possible cast members, including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Linda Cardellini, and Emma Stone.

A release date for the film, which is expected to begin production next year, hasn’t been announced.

Users on Twitter were excited about the female reboot.
