Giada De Laurentiis on Finger Sliced During Live TV: It Throbs

By    |   Wednesday, 27 November 2013 08:54 AM EST

Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis is on the mend after slicing the tip of her finger during a live Food Network telecast Saturday.

"It throbs a little bit," De Laurentiis said during an appearance on the "Today" show Monday. "I was slicing my turkey porchetta. I was slicing it in the background to feed it to Bobby [Flay], Alton [Brown], and Ina [Garten] and, unfortunately, I guess I just sliced through my finger at the same time."

"I think everybody kind of freaked out," she said. "We don't do live television usually on Food Network, so these things usually can get hidden. It couldn't get hidden."

But after getting some stitches and a bandage, De Laurentiis said the injury is now just more of an inconvenience.

"I have to sleep like this and basically walk around like this," she told "Today's" Tamron Hall, holding up her finger in the air.

Indeed, De Laurentiis and her sliced finger are now the butt of the joke, as evidenced by the ribbing fellow Food Network chef Alton Brown gave her on Twitter.
