"Gilmore Girls" star David Sutcliffe is addressing rumors that he participated in the Capitol riots earlier this month. Taking to Twitter, the actor denied any involvement in the event, which saw rioters storm the Capitol building on Jan. 6. The riot left several people dead, including a police officer.
"There are rumors circulating that I 'stormed the capital,'" Sutcliffe tweeted. "Not true - though I would have been proud to share a smoke with this great Patriot!"
In the tweet, Sutcliffe included a video of a man who filmed himself smoking what he claims to be marijuana.
"We made history guys. People are smoking weed in here," the unidentified man says in the video. "May I please hit that and make history with you?" he then says to another unidentified person who passes him what appears to be a joint. "I'm smoking weed. We made history," the man continues. "This is our house. This is our house."
Sutcliffe is not the only celebrity to be falsely accused of participating in the Capitol riot. Last week Chuck Norris made headlines after a photo emerged on social media of a Capitol rioter standing alongside a man who was perceived to be Norris. In a statement to USA Today, the "Walker, Texas Ranger" star's manager, Erik Kritzer, dismissed the rumors.
"This is not Chuck Norris and is a wanna be look alike although Chuck is much more handsome," Kritzer told the outlet. "Chuck remains on his range in Texas where he has been with his family."
