"Girl Meets World" premieres Friday night at 9:45 on Disney, bringing back memories for adults who were devoted "Boy Meets World" fans and hopefully, for creators, appealing to a new generation — the children of those fans.
The original show, which played from 1993 to 2000 on ABC, tracked the lives of Cory Matthews and his girlfriend, Topanga. On "Girl Meets World," the show will focus on the daughter of now-married Cory and Topanga.

The new show is guided by one of the creators of the original, Michael Jacobs, who hired back original stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel. The two play parents of a 13-year-old girl, played by Rowan Blanchard.
Appealing to the childhood memories of now-adults may be a positive thing for Disney, which owns ABC. The show could appeal to not just a younger generation, but their parents. Already, online social media was reminiscing about Cory and Topanga and planning to watch.
Jacobs wasn’t completely sure about the new show when Disney started talking with him.
“I'm 58 years old," he told NPR. "I'm surrounded by these 58-year-old guys. We like to think of ourselves as cutting edge. That's how foolish we are."
To combat their age and inject a youthful attitude, the show hired four young female writers.
The writing team has some high expectations to meet, judging by Twitter.
