If you are looking for a Girl Scout cookie fix, Aldi stores are selling knock-off Thin Mints, Samoas and other similar cookies year-round, the lifestyles website Delish wrote Wednesday.
While proceeds for the Girl Scout cookies go to pay for the organization's leadership programs, the website said it was hard to pass up similar cookies that are selling for $1.39 and $1.45 a box at Aldi's, cheaper than the originals.
"Turns out, Aldi makes its own version of some Girl Scout staples: Caramel Coconut, Fudge Mint, and Peanut Butter-filled cookies," the website said. "While they don't have knock-offs of every cookie, if you're a Samoas, Thin Mint, or Tagalong fan, you'll be on happy camper.
"As for the caramel coconut cookies, they taste just like the real deal with the same shortbread cookie, caramel and chocolate drizzle, and coconut flakes combination," the website continued.
This is not the first time the Benton's-branded Girl Scout-ish copycat cookies have been spotted at Aldi's. Blogger Dana Vento wrote the about the cookies in 2015, touting the price savings.
"Please know that I realize a lot of girls are Girl Scouts and I appreciate the troops and the great girls they help create," Vento wrote. "If everyone would just buy a pack or two that would be great. But, let's be serious, the price of these cookies, the packaging, and the seasonal provision just don't make it always feasible for the everyday consumer to purchase and enjoy these cookies."
Just this week, though, the Girls Scouts introduced a new cookie to stay at least one step ahead of Aldi. Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies will join the Girl Scout ranks Jan. 2, when the next cookie season begins, according its website.
The cookie is made of rich caramel, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and a hint of sea salt in a chewy cookie, the Girl Scouts said Tuesday.
"My experience selling Girl Scout Cookies taught me to be creative, enterprising, and persistent, and helped me build self-confidence and resilience," Girl Scout chief executive officer Sylvia Acevedo said in a statement.
"When you buy Girl Scout cookies you are not only helping girls become business trailblazers, you're also helping them power their Girl Scout adventures and ensuring they have access to the cutting-edge leadership experiences and opportunities that only Girl Scouts can offer," she continued.
