Girl Scout's Pot Club Cookie-Selling Spot a Business Savvy Decision

By    |   Friday, 21 February 2014 04:46 PM EST

A savvy Girl Scout who set up outside a pot club to sell cookies sold 117 boxes in two hours and would probably be a good candidate for a future in sales and marketing.

Danielle Lei, 13, set up outside The Green Cross medical marijuana clinic in San Francisco with the help of her mother, Carol Lei, to sell her inventory of Tagalongs, Dulce de Leches and Thin Mints.

Carol Lei told Mashable it wasn’t the first time she and her daughters have set up outside such a store.

Girl Scouts of Northern California said they’re fine with Lei’s location choice.

“Girls are selling cookies, and they and their parents pick out places where they can make good sales," Dana Allen, director of marketing and communications, told Mashable. "The mom decided this was a place she was comfortable with her daughter being at."

That wasn’t the reaction of the Colorado Girl Scouts organization, which responded negatively to a photo of three Girl Scouts selling outside one of the marijuana stores in that state, Mashable said. The organization called the picture a hoax and tweeted:

Following that tweet, the Colorado Girl Scouts posted two more that explained such businesses include strip clubs, liquor stores, and marijuana dispensaries. Acknowledging that the stores are legitimate businesses, another tweet said, “We recognize these are legitimate businesses, but we don’t feel they are an appropriate place for girls to be selling cookies in Colorado.”

Allen in Northern California told Mashable, “We're not telling people where they can and can't go if it's a legitimate business.”

As the story of Lei’s cookie success went around the internet, she was called everything from “brilliant” to “genius” to “enterprising.”
