Giuliana Rancic Dropping 'E! News' Duties as Move to Chicago Approaches

By    |   Thursday, 09 July 2015 09:23 AM EDT

Giuliana Rancic, the "E! News" and "Fashion Police" co-host, is planning to drastically cut her hours at the network as she prepares to move to Chicago from Los Angeles with her family.

The move comes after a tension-filled year in which Rancic lost her close friend and "Fashion Police" co-host Joan Rivers, became involved in a public spat with colleague Kelly Osbourne, and also had to issue an embarrassing public apology for comments she about Disney star Zendaya Coleman, the New York Daily News reported.

"Giuliana has been wanting to move back to Chicago for some time," a source told the Daily News, adding that Rancic will return to Los Angeles Monday to wrap up her last few weeks of anchoring "E! News" before her permanent move. She will reportedly stay on as "Fashion Police" co-host when the show relaunches.

Rancic's source told the Daily News that the decrease in E! duties will free her up to work on a "huge" new project with another network.

Variety reported that Rancic will also stay on to anchor E!'s "Live From the Red Carpet" Hollywood award events.

"During her time here, Giuliana played an instrumental role in building 'E! News' into a global entertainment news powerhouse and . . . we will miss seeing her on set every day," Adam Stotsky, E! Network general manager and president of Esquire Network, told Variety.

Rancic said in a statement that she is looking forward to the transition.

"This is such a thrilling time for me and I thank the gang at E! for understanding my desire to embark on this next chapter in my life," she said.

"E! News" correspondent Maria Menounos is expected to have an expanded role in light of Rancic's departure, but the E! Network has not officially named a replacement for Rancic, Variety noted.

People magazine first reported Rancic's Chicago move in April, with the television host telling the publication that she wanted to provide some stability for her 2-year-old son Duke.

"Up until now, Duke's been on our schedule," she said. "But he starts school at the end of summer and we want him to have a connection with schoolmates and not be going from city to city."
