Giuliana Rancic, Maria Menounos E! Red Carpet Switchup Irks Twitter

A Giuliana Rancic scheduling snafu opened the door for Maria Menounos to cohost E! News' red carpet coverage of Sunday's SAG Awards, and angry fans immediately flooded Twitter with criticism.

According to the New York Daily News, Rancic double booked herself with a hosting gig at the Miss Universe pageant. After learning the pageant and the SAG Awards fell on the same night, she reportedly tried to drop Miss Universe in favor of E! News.

"Giuliana originally had told NBC she couldn't do it because of her E! hosting commitments, but E! approved it, and once she got in touch with NBC to tell them yes, they had just offered it to Natalie [Morales]," a source told the Daily News. "But G had already taken the night off from E!, so they had offered it to Maria [Menounos]."

The source said Rancic "begged" to get back on the SAG red carpet but the E! Network didn't want to create drama between the two women, whom the Daily News described as rivals. E! decided to stay put with Menounos and not risk any bad publicity or public badmouthing.

Us Weekly reported that Menounos, a former cohost on "Extra," moved to E! recently as a part of a deal that includes a reality show, "Untold with Maria Menounos," network specials, and a roundtable series.

Many on Twitter did not hold back on what they thought of Menounos' performance on the red carpet at the SAG awards.
