"Glee" will launch its final season in January with a two-hour special on Jan. 9, and then will wrap up the season, and the series, in 11 weeks.
The sixth season of “Glee” will move to Fridays and have 13 episodes, which Fox cut back to after the show recorded series low viewership during its fifth season.
Ryan Murphy, one of the program’s creators,
told The Hollywood Reporter in April that the death of the show’s star, Cory Monteith, required adjustments to the fifth season.
"The final season is really its own story and its own location and while the New York stuff will be alive, the final season is not New York-centric at all," Murphy said at the time, adding that there will be some kind of time jump in the last episodes. "It really [will be] a lovely, fitting season that ... dwells on the original people that were on the show and what happens to them and how they give back. That really is the last season. ... We'll revisit some of the new kids that came and went. There's a return of the Jane-Matt characters in a big way. It's really interesting, very sweet, satisfying ending to the story."
The show’s last episode will also be two hours and is set for March 20.
One of the show’s stars, Naya Rivera, tweaked fan excitement with a post Friday afternoon, hinting about possible things that will happen during the final season.
Fans greeted the news of the final season with bittersweet feelings.
