Glory Johnson Support Petition Demands $20K/Month From Brittney Griner

Glory Johnson wants $20,000 per month in spousal support from ex Brittney Griner after the WNBA couple's short-lived marriage ended in an annulment last month.

Johnson filed court documents requesting the money June 29, less than a month after Griner petitioned for an annulment, The Washington Post reported. The womens’ May 8 marriage lasted less than a month.

Johnson is also requesting $10,000 to cover attorney’s fees.

KSAZ reported that Griner’s attorney has filed a motion with the court arguing that neither party should be entitled to spousal support, although she, too, requested that Johnson pay for her legal fees.

The petition to separate came a day after Johnson announced she is pregnant via in vitro fertilization. Since then, the basketball player has revealed she is expecting twins.

Johnson claims her pregnancy will render her unable to play in the all-female basketball league, qualifying her for financial assistance, according to KSAZ. Additionally, she states she spent much of her savings on the IVF treatment and wedding ceremony.

According to The Post, Griner called the marriage a “mistake” and looked to postpone the union “several times” while she sought counseling.

Fox Sports reported that Griner is claiming she was “pressured into marriage under duress by Johnson's threatening statements” and insists she was not made aware of Johnson’s medical procedure, though her partner denies that claim.

The two women were arrested for domestic assault at their Arizona home in April, three weeks prior to their marriage. Griner pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and started a diversionary program to have all charges dismissed. Johnson argued that she was innocent, and her case remains pending in court.

The incident caused both women to be suspended for seven games. Griner, who plays for the Phoenix Mercury, has already served her time, and Johnson will be suspended once she returns next season after she gives birth, but the team confirmed she will not be playing for the Tulsa Shock.

A hearing to look over evidence is scheduled for Aug. 17 at the Maricopa County Central Building in Phoenix.
