Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is being sued in New York Supreme Court in Manhattan by a German chef who claims he cut his tongue at Ramsay's restaurant, losing his ability to taste.

Markus Barthel, 28, claims in the lawsuit that he cut his tongue while biting into a burger that contained a sharp shard of ceramic at Ramsay's The London hotel restaurant, according to the New York Post.

Barthel's attorney, Florian Bruno, said in the lawsuit that Barthel is a cook at a small town café and the injury prevents him from working.

"(Barthel) suffered serious injuries that rendered him unable to continue working in his occupation as a professional chef," the lawsuit says.

"As a chef he has to taste food — soups, whatever he's making and for several weeks he wasn't able to do that," Bruno told the Post.

Bruno told the paper that his client was a fan of Ramsay's, traveling to the United States so he could eat at the restaurant.

"He treated himself to this trip," Bruno said. "He had some extra money and said, 'Let's do something really spectacular and stay in the London.' For him it was like an adventure into a new world. ... As we know Mr. Ramsay is a man who makes a living out of criticizing other restaurants. Now he’s having his own little kitchen nightmare."

The bombastic Ramsay struck television gold in the United States with his involvement in five different television series: "Hell's Kitchen," "Hotel Hell," "Kitchen Nightmares," "MasterChef" and "MasterChef Junior."

Ramsay's culinary television shows air in more than 200 countries. Queen Elizabeth II awarded Ramsay the Order of the British Empire in 2006 for his service to the culinary industry.

RadarOnline.com reported last June that Ramsay's Fat Cow restaurant in Los Angeles faced a class action lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court that claimed the eatery failed to pay minimum wage for workers, pay overtime, and provide meal periods.
