A gorilla at a British zoo flipped the middle finger at an amateur photographer this week, and now the photo has gone viral across the Internet.

Several news outlets shared the funny photo on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, delighting many with its juvenile humor.

The Daily Mail spoke with the man who snapped the picture, Bob Pitchford, 67, who said he was merely trying to capture the gorilla, Kera, who is female, eating some greens.

"As I spotted him he was just playing with some grass. Gorillas have fantastic hearing so when I started clicking he must have heard me. He just turned around and it looked like he was flipping me the middle finger," said Pitchford.

"When I saw the pictures, I just thought 'you little devil.' He really does look a bit cheesed off."

Many used the photo for a round of jokes, saying the gorilla was "telling everyone what he thinks of captivity," among other things.

"I quite regularly photograph the animals at Bristol, but I've never seen anything like this," Pitchford concluded. "Gorillas are really good at expressing their feelings. I was just really lucky to capture this."
