Olympic figure skater Gracie Gold will unfortunately not be going to the prom with the Malibu High student who "melted her heart" when he asked her out in a YouTube video that went viral across the Internet.
The young man, Dyer Pettijohn,
told Yahoo Sports he isn't too disappointed, and that he's glad the whole thing happened.
He said that even after backing out of the date, "She was incredibly gracious and gave me tickets to see her show last Saturday in Anaheim."

The show was great, he reported, and said that there's still a chance the pair will get together after prom.
"I talked to her after, and we're still trying to meet up once her busy schedule permits," he said.
The romantic saga all began in February, just after the 18-year-old Gold finished competing at the Olympic Games in Sochi, where she won a bronze medal.
Pettijohn made a lighthearted video titled "Gracie Gold, Will You Go to Prom with Me?" that showed all the things the would-be pair had in common. The video received hundreds of thousands of views, and was shared widely on social media.
After the video was brought to Gold's attention, she tweeted the link and the message "This melted my heart" on Twitter.
A few days later, the producers of "Extra" surprised Gold during her interview with a walk-on from Pettijohn, who gave her flowers, got down on one knee, and asked her out.
"If it works out, I would love to," she said at the time.
Even though the date is now off, Pettijohn is holding his chin up, and keeping it positive.
"It was amazing getting a view of the Olympic lifestyle," he said. "It's truly brilliant how they are able to balance their rigor of training with entertaining their fans and family. This experience has been absolutely amazing and hopefully my relationship with Ms. Gold will continue for years to come."
