Greg Plitt, a Bravo reality show fitness star who appeared in the programs "Work Out" and "Friends to Lovers," was killed by a train while apparently filming a promotional video for his website.
Burbank police officer Joshua Kendrick told
The Associated Press that Plitt, 37, was running between the rails of a Metrolink commuter train track on Saturday when he was hit by one of the trains. Kendrick said a camera on top of the train showed Plitt running as the train approached.
"The conductor can see somebody on the tracks a distance away," Kendrick told the AP. He said the conductor attempted to brake and blew the train's horn, but "for one reason or another, unfortunately, Mr. Plitt did not get off the tracks."
KTLA-TV reported it was not clear what Plitt was filming but he appeared to have shot around train tracks before in a September 2013 video on his YouTube channel. The video was part of his 30-day fitness test.
Burbank police took video recorded by camera operators on the scene as evidence, according to KTLA-TV. Authorities said Plitt had been videotaping in a restricted area and did not have a permit to be there.
Surveillance video in the area will also be checked for evidence as well.
Plitt's girlfriend, Christina Stejskal, told the
Los Angeles Times on Monday that Plitt always "wanted to push things to the limit. He's just like Superman."
The Times noted that Plitt was featured in more than 250 magazines along with his acting and television appearances. He appeared on the soap opera "Days of Our Lives" and the films "Terminator Salvation" and "Grudge Match." His body was the model for the Dr. Manhattan character in the 2009 film "Watchmen."
Fans passed along their condolences for the star on Twitter.
