Gretchen Carlson is leaving "Fox & Friends" but not the network, the co-host announced Wednesday, adding that she'll be premiering her own daytime news show in September.
"I'm going to move forward in my career, moving on to the afternoons here at Fox and hosting my own show coming up in September," Carlson, who's been a co-host on the show since 2006, said on-air.

"I am excited to further advance my career and am thrilled to have the opportunity to host my own show in daytime and look forward to showcasing my skills as an interviewer and journalist in a more in-depth manner," she added in a Fox statement.
Carlson's new show will fill the void left by Megyn Kelly, who announced last week that she will move to the prime-time slot when she returns from maternity leave.
"Roger Ailes hired me nine years ago when I was new to this business and he had little other than instinct to suggest it might work out. I was grateful to him then, remain so today, and am excited for this next opportunity," Kelly said in a statement.
The news of Carlson's switch shook up Twitter.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck will take over Carlson's spot on "Fox & Friends," the network announced Wednesday.
"Elisabeth’s warm and engaging personality made her a star on 'The View,'" Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said in the news release. "She has proven to be an excellent conversationalist and I am certain she will make a great addition to our already successful morning franchise."
