Gwen Stefani is opening up about her faith and how it has helped her through tough times. Speaking in a virtual interview with NBC's "Today" on Thursday, the singer admitted to feeling lost at times, but she knew there was something greater guiding her.
"For me, I was turning to my faith right away," she said of her hardships. "That was a seed that my mom planted in me when I was a little girl ... it's a journey. It's almost like you get lost, it's like you get lost on your journey. We all do and we all will and I will again at some point I'm sure."
Stefani has had her share of obstacles to overcome. In the interview, she admitted to having "those fetal positions for a while" that left her feeling as if life was a test. It is not always easy to see the light on the other side of the tunnel during dark times but things can change if handled correctly, she explained.
"You're gonna be blessed. You got to ask for the blessings," she said. "You got to keep engaged. That's how I believe. That's how I live my life. I'm getting better at it. It's something you have to work on. It's like a spiritual exercise every single day."
Stefani is testament to those blessings. In 2015 she split with Gavin Rossdale after 13 years of marriage but now she is happily engaged to Blake Shelton and things are going well for the couple. Stefani's three sons — Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6 — who she shares with Rossdale, approve of their relationship and even gave Shelton their blessings to propose.
"Blake told her boys that he wanted to propose and ask their permission," a source told People last year. "Her family very much approves of him. He’s an amazing partner and a great dad to the boys. Gwen is ecstatic."
