Gwyneth Paltrow and Jimmy Fallon rocked the "The Tonight Show" stage with Broadway versions of hip-hop songs Wednesday night, giving an entirely new twist to some adult lyrics.
"What do you say we start things off from the bottom," Fallon opened, playing "fake" piano to launch into Drake’s "Started from the Bottom."
In a flesh-colored, ruffled pantsuit that the Daily Mail called "a fashion faux pas," Paltrow was able to take even the lyrics to Big Sean's "I Don’t F*** With You" and make them run with the smooth tones of Broadway. The bleeps added to remove bad language didn’t much detract from the song.
In the YouTube comments section of the video, which pulled in more than 300,000 views in less than a day, a lot of attention was given to whether Fallon was actually playing the piano (Spoiler: He wasn’t).
And Paltrow’s pantsuit got a lot of online comment, too, resulting in a thumb’s down.
But the performance itself got a general thumbs up.
"This was great . . . but her chewed up bubble gum lookin' onesie was kind of distracting," wrote one person on YouTube.
"Gwyneth Paltrow can sing!!!! I was unaware of that . . . But can Jimmy Fallon play piano?" someone else asked.
During the sit-down interview segment of the show, Paltrow shared with Fallon that she met her "Mortdecai" co-star Johnny Depp years ago, saying she was so impressed with his attitude.
"I mean he was just so cool, he was rolling cigarettes with one hand," Paltrow told Fallon. "He was like, wearing sunglasses inside which is normally bad, but not for him somehow."
And when Fallon asked, "What does he smell like," Paltrow answered, "patchouli and tobacco."
