Hallmark Now Says: ‘I’m Sorry for Pink Slip’

In a sign of the times, Hallmark has issued a line of greeting cards aimed at those who wish to soften the blow for loved ones who have been laid off.

“Don’t think of it as losing your job,” reads one card. “Think of it as a time out between stupid bosses.”

A $5.99 card might be cold comfort to the nearly 14 million Americans without a full-time job (as of August), but it might be the thought that counts, rather than the positive, goofy message conveyed.

“We started making these because people asked for them,” writes a commenter at Jezebel.com who claims to be a Hallmark writer. “I think the product turned out really well . . . It's a good mix of ‘to hell with that boss/company who fired you’ and messages that say you're more than your job, you're awesome, you're going to be OK, and I'm here for you.”

A reporter from TV station WTHR in Indianapolis, Ind., visited a Hallmark store to gauge reaction. Here’s that video report:
