A high-school senior turned a $40 wedding dress into a memorable hand-painted prom dress adorned with her version of Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night."
When Mesa (Arizona) High School's Julia Reidhead couldn't find the perfect dress for the annual prom, the 18-year-old art strudent turned to her own creativity, painting one of her favorite pieces of art onto the fabric, creating a one-of-a-kind dress.

"I had painted on other stuff before, like shoes, but that made me confident that I could
paint on a dress," Reidhead told Yahoo Shine.
Reidhead first marked the design on the dress in pencil, then tested her acrylic paints on some spare fabric. She used the large tree in van Gogh's work on the side of the dress, then turned the back of the dress into a mirror image of the painting.
Reidhead said she worked from the bottom up.
"As you paint you must let it dry," she told KTAR.com. "I used acrylic paint, so I had to wait to get the desired effect."
She told the station that it took about 10 hours to paint, spread out over the week leading up to the prom. She surprised her prom date, fellow Mesa senior Alden Durfee, with the finished product.
"Her dress was beyond amazing," Durfee told the station.
People on Twitter were inspired by her efforts.
Reidhead's efforts have put her in demand. She has gotten requests for painted skirts and ties and T-shirts, and she is setting up a store on the handmade marketplace, Etsy.
