Investigators searching through the rubble of James DiMaggio's burned-down California home found letters from Hannah Anderson, the 16-year-old he kidnapped earlier this month and who was rescued six days later.
A nine-page list of things seized from the home was incorporated in a
search warrant and affidavits obtained by CNN. Other items that were recovered included a handcuff box, used condoms, a DNA swabbing kit, camping equipment, ammunition, arson wire, and incendiary devices.
It's not clear what the contents of the handwritten letters were, and the sheriff's office declined to elaborate when asked directly.

"Many portions of this investigation cannot be discussed," spokesperson Jan Caldwell told CNN. "Sorry this is one if them."
DiMaggio, 40, is accused of torturing and murdering Anderson's mother, Christina Anderson, and her 8-year-old brother Ethan at his home before setting it on fire Aug. 4 and fleeing with the teenager. Known by the children as "Uncle Jim," DiMaggio was an unusually close family friend, often driving Hannah Anderson to gymnastics meets and cheerleading practice and even going on weeklong trips alone with her.
DiMaggio was shot and killed Aug. 10 by FBI agents in Idaho, after a retired sheriff and his three companions spied the abductor and Anderson in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness and called police.
Investigators also dug up phone records this week from the day of Anderson's disappearance, which revealed that
DiMaggio called her 13 times.
Earlier this week, the teen answered user questions about the ordeal on social media site Ask.fm.
She did not want to go with him, and did not escape after she was abducted out of fear he would kill her, Anderson said in the postings. And, she added, she's "absolutely" glad he is dead.
The account was disabled Wednesday.

On Thursday she attended a family fundraiser at a local restaurant near her Southern California home.
"This is a small community that we are a part of, and the community came together putting on this great fundraiser for Hannah and hopefully for her future and healing," Brett Anderson, Hannah's father, told the crowd. "This is how Lakeside rolls."
