Harris County Deputy Constable Killed at Courthouse; Manhunt Underway

A Harris County deputy constable with 30 years of law enforcement experience was fatally shot as he arrived at work around 7 a.m. Monday.

Assistant Chief Deputy of Harris County Precinct 3 Clint Greenwood was killed by a single gunshot wound at the courthouse in Baytown, Texas, according to ABC News.

After he was shot, Greenwood reportedly radioed for help, saying, “I’m bleeding out,” ABC reported. Emergency help responded, but Greenwood was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A manhunt is underway for the killer; police said they had several leads.

and a federal law official said, “It’s a hit, no doubt. He basically got ambushed,” a federal law official said, the Houston Chronicle reported

The motive was unclear, police said, but asserted they didn’t have reason to think the killer would target other local residents, the Chronicle reported.

A $35,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and charges of the person responsible.

“He was an incredible human being, a cop’s cop,” Constable Alan Rosen of Precinct 1 said, the Chronicle reported.

“Texas is taking action to strengthen penalties for those brazen enough to commit crimes against law enforcement,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement, the Chronicle reported. “I am confident that the perpetrator of this swift and despicable act will be apprehended and that murder will be met with swift justice.”

Twitter offered prayers and condolences after the Harris County deputy constable's death.
