Harry Reid's reported scandal regarding his son and the Bureau of Land Management conflict with Nevada cattle rancher Cliven Bundy has been debunked.

Multiple reports swirled last week that the Senate Majority Leader was interested in a federal acquisition of the Bundy ranch in order to pave the way for the Chinese company ENN to build a facility on the property. Reid's son Rory Reid has reportedly represented ENN in their efforts to build a solar facility in Nevada.

But in a fact-finding article published by the Las Vegas Sun on Thursday, it was revealed that, while Reid had been in talks with the Chinese solar power company, the plot of land being considered for the project is about a three-hour drive away from Bundy's ranch.

In addition to the geographic disparity, the newspaper also claims that the Chinese solar company walked away from the project in 2013, citing concerns that the financial "market will not support a project of this scale and nature at this time."

According to the Las Vegas newspaper, another proposed solar project was located closer to Bundy’s home in the Mojave desert, which was the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone. However, even in this case, the renewable energy development facility would reportedly not cross the graze lands where Bundy allowed his cattle to roam.

In response to the false reports of a scandal, Reid's spokeswoman Kristen Orthman described the theories as "bogus," telling the Las Vegas Sun, "People find anything to label him as, or to connect things to [him] that aren’t connectable . . . If it wasn’t this, they would be talking about something else."

The Bureau of Land Management backed off efforts to seize Bundy's cattle Saturday after initially trying to stop the herd from grazing on a remote public rangeland under federal protection. The federal agents were rebuffed by hundreds of Bundy supporters who showed up vowing to fight those attempting to go after the remaining herd.
