Canadian actor Harvey Atkin died Monday night in Toronto at age 74 after a battle against cancer, his longtime agent Larry Goldhar announced in a statement.

Atkin was perhaps best known as camp director Morty in the 1979 comedy “Meatballs.” He also played Staff Sgt. Capt. Ronald Coleman on “Cagney and Lacey” and Judge Ridenour on “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.”

Atkin also had a number of film and TV credits, including “Ticket to Heaven,” “Beetlejuice,” “Silver Streak,” and “Atlantic City.” In addition, he did voice acting for many different television commercials.

He was famous for the combination of glasses, a big nose, and a mustache for most of his roles.

He is survived by wife Celia, children Danny and Lisa, three sisters and five grandchildren, according to CTV.

Fans thanked him for his work on Twitter, particularly on many Canadian shows and commercials.
