A shooting at a Hawaii high school involved a runaway teenager and police officers after the teen allegedly cut one officer with a knife and hit two others. Police shot the boy in the wrist during the altercation.
Authorities were called when the boy, 17, showed up at the school and
school officials recognized him as a runaway, The Associated Press reported. When the Honolulu Police Department officers showed up, the boy reportedly fought with them as they tried to take him into custody. The officers received minor injuries, the AP said.

Two shots were fired by police, and the teenager was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries to his wrist.
Roosevelt High School went on lockdown when the incident occurred, and parents fearful about the situation assembled outside the school.
One student in social studies told the AP he heard a sound about at 8:20 a.m. and then a school bell went off and students stayed in their rooms. In his class, they continued a politics lesson.
“I guess it happens a lot in mainland schools, so it's not surprising," Kealii Akiona-Soares told the news agency. Parents were not so blasé, and one woman told AP, “This is really freaking me out.”
Many parents received texts and calls from their children inside the school, AP said.
One woman,
Karen Hamilton, told KHON in Hawaii, “Gunshots was ringing out here and police and sirens was coming up here at this school. And my grandson was texting me he loved me and I knew something was wrong. I was fearful for him and the other children for him to experience something like that here in Hawaii. I was very fearful.”
KHON reported that the teenager was arrested on three counts of attempted murder in the first degree.
