A major cyber attack hack on HBO compromised content from several of the network's shows, leading to leaks about "Game of Thrones," “Ballers," and "Room 104."
Hackers reportedly got 1.5 terabytes of data in the hack, and may have published scripts for the fourth episode of "Game of Thrones" Season 7, as well as other scripts, HuffPost reported. Hackers also said that more content would be “coming soon.”
HBO confirmed the hack to Entertainment Weekly in a statement, saying, “We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.”
HBO has had leaks related to “Game of Thrones” before. The first four episodes of Season 5 were leaked online before the show’s season premiere, and some clips also were leaked from overseas distributors. Images of Jon Snow’s death were leaked online before the finale aired.
The previous leaks were not related to any cyber attacks, however.
Netflix was hacked in April and episodes of “Orange is the New Black” were released before they were available to the public. A hacker also claimed to have gotten “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” but Disney CEO Bob Iger said the claim was a hoax.
Twitter users were skeptical and wanted to see the proof that hackers actually got HBO's “Game of Thrones” scripts.
