Heat records have been set all around the planet in the last week, with numerous locations in the Northern Hemisphere experiencing some of the hottest weather conditions ever.

The high temperatures were caused by large areas of heat pressure around the Northern Hemisphere, and experts believe that these collective heat records are typical patterns resulting from "a warming world," The Washington Post reported.

The U.S. and parts of southeast Canada have been gripped by sweltering heat and stifling humidity, with several states competing with previous heat records.

The Washington Post noted that, on July 2, Burlington, Vermont, set an all-time warmest low temperature of 80 degrees while Montreal recorded its highest temperature of 97.9 degrees, toppling its previous record set 147 years ago.

That same day, Mount Washington, New Hampshire, tied its all-time warmest low temperature of 60 degrees while over in Ottawa, the most extreme combination of heat and humidity was logged on July 1.

Europe also witnessed several heat records being set, the results which were seen in deteriorating infrastructure.

The tar on several roads in Ireland began to melt as temperatures soared, while over in Scotland, a weatherproof membrane on the roof at the Glasgow Science Centre melted, The Weather Channel reported.

Moterwell, near Glasgow, saw a new heat record of 91.8 degrees set on June 28, while Glasgow experienced its hottest day of 89.4 degrees, The Washington Post noted.

Shannon in Ireland hit a new record of 89.6 degrees while in Northern Ireland two new records were set, with Belfast hitting 85.1 degrees and Castlederg experiencing 86.2 degrees.

Several locations across Eurasia also saw new heat records being set while in the Middle East Quriyat, Oman, saw the record for the hottest minimum temperature of the day broken last week.
